Description
Title: “Lau Pa Sat”
Artist: Felix Lim
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Year: 2003
The Lau Pa Sat is one of Singapore’s most iconic locations. Originally known as the Telok Ayer Market, this was renamed to Lau Pa Sat after construction of a Mass Rapid Transit tunnel underneath the site in 1989. It is now home to plenty of local eateries and is popular with both locals and tourists. The iconic roof is one of the few left with its unique cast-iron architectural style in Singapore.
This is part of a series of paintings by Felix where he strives to preserve the culture and history of Singapore through its classic buildings and locations that are slowly disappearing. This is a valuable collection that can remind future generations of the origins of Singapore’s unique and vibrant culture.
